Today, I launch a new page on our website, focused on providing you with a weekly article. It has been a few years since I wrote consistently as a part of my ministry. To be honest, I needed a break after finishing my doctoral dissertation. I was officially all “written out” at that time.
But over the past few weeks a renewed passion and increasing interest in writing has resettled in my heart. The result? Weekly articles providing you with my thoughts on various topics (Could you think of anything scarier?!).
There are a few reasons why I am picking up the pen again, and I can tell you that is not with the hopes of producing a viral article or a desire to gain any measure of fame. Let’s be honest - very few people care about what I think, and I prefer it that way. I’m approaching these articles as the pastor of Gospel Life Church. Which means, I’m writing these articles with the church in mind. I believe that this weekly article will offer me the opportunity to address topics and issues that my other teaching platforms fail to provide. In reality, I do have plenty of pastoral thoughts about current events, culture, and the church, and these articles will provide me with the opportunity to explore, study, and write on these issues from a pastoral and theological perspective.
I’ve titled the page “Christ, Culture, Scripture, and the Church” (purposely non-alliterated) because the majority of the topics addressed will fall under one of those categories or the intersection of any number of them. As Christians, we should continually interpret the world through the lens of Scripture. My hope is that these articles will bring that lens to bear in your life by both challenging and encouraging you. My aim is a deeper love for Christ and a clearer understanding of the world we live in. I also know that forcing myself to write consistently will help me grow spiritually and sharpen my communication skills.
One feature of this page is the opportunity for you to submit a question or a topic that you would like me to write on. Of course, those submissions need to find a home in one of the four previously mentioned topics (a.k.a the title of this page). I would love to share my opinion about other topics in another place.
Next week, I will start tackling the issues. I plan to start with an article titled: “First, a Christian; Then a ______ (fill in your political affiliation).”
Your servant in the Lord,
